Trailhead Access Information


Brockway Summit- Heading north on Hwy 267 from Kings Beach, drive 3 miles from Kings Beach and 0.5 miles before the summit and park at a large dirt parking area.

 

Watson Lake- From Kings Beach on Hwy 267 turn left (right if coming from Truckee) at Brockway Summit onto Forest Service Road 73 (FS 73). Drive about 6 miles down this paved road to the Watson Lake turnoff. Turn left at the Watson Lake turnoff. Drive 0.8 mi to the lake and park.  The Tahoe Rim Trail is along this small lake to the right.

 

Tahoe City North- Coming south through Tahoe City, drive 1/8 mile west on Highway 89 past the stoplight and turn right on Fairway.  Park in Tahoe City Community Center, trail is across the street.

 

Tahoe City South - Heading south on 89 from Tahoe City, drive 1/4 mi south of junction with 28.  Park at the Truckee River Access Recreation area on the right side of the highway in the paved lot.  To access the trail, follow the bike path on south shore of river then turn right through the Forest Service gate and onto gravel road for .3 mi. Pass another gate and the TRT becomes dirt path.


Ward Canyon- From Tahoe City, take Hwy 89 south past Sunnyside and William Kent Campground and then turn right at Pineland Rd. Pineland Road jogs left onto Twin Peaks Rd. ( short distance) and then to Ward Creek Blvd. Distance 1.5 mi. On the right, the TRT heads north to Page Meadows/Tahoe City South. A bit further down the road is TRT heading south to Barker Pass.


Barker Pass- From Tahoe City, take 89 south past Sunnyside and William Kent Campground.  At Kaspian Campground, 4 miles south of Tahoe City and 4 miles north of Tahoma, turn right on Blackwood Canyon Rd. Drive up Blackwood Canyon Rd. for 7.5 miles to trailhead and roadside parking.  Bathroom facilities.


Emerald Bay-Eagle Falls Picnic Area- From South Lake Tahoe, drive 9 miles north of the junction with Hwy 50 on Hwy 89. Park at the picnic area. Desolation Wilderness day passes available here.  Bathroom facilities.


Emerald bay- Bayview Campground- From South Lake Tahoe, drive 9 miles north of the junction with Hwy 50 on Hwy 89. Turn into the Bayview campground on the west side of the highway, and drive through to the trailhead parking lot on the west edge of the campground.


Big Meadow- From South Lake Tahoe, drive south on Hwy50/89.  Take Hwy 89 south at the junction in Meyers.  Trailhead is 5 miles after junction on the north side of Highway 89. Bathroom facilities.


Armstrong Pass- Take Hwy 89 south from South Lake Tahoe and continue on 89 after the junction in Meyers.  Turn left onto FS 051 off Highway 89 about ½ mile after Luther Pass and follow for about 2.5 miles.  Cross the bridge over the creek and look for a road on the left. Park at this turn. Walk road on left across "pedestrian bridge" through old parking area, continue uphill and find trail. About 1 mile.


Kingsbury South- From South Lake Tahoe, go north on Hwy 50 past Stateline.  Turn right on Hwy 207 (Kingsbury Grade) and continue 3 mi up to summit. Turn south (right) and follow sings for Heavenly Stagecoach parking. Look for the TRT bulletin board and trail sign at the south end of the parking lot.


Kingsbury North- From South Lake Tahoe, go north on Hwy 50 past Stateline.  Turn right on Hwy 207 (Kingsbury Grade) and continue 2.5 mi up.  Turn left onto No. Benjamin and follow Andria (an extension of Benjamin) 2 miles to its end.  Park alongside the road and look west for trailhead.


Spooner Summit South- From South Lake Tahoe, drive north on Hwy 50.  From North Lake Tahoe, drive south/east on Hwy 28 to junction with Hwy 50.  Take 50 east.  Park in the lot on the right side of the road, past the junction with Hwy 28 and just before Spooner Summit.


Spooner Summit North- From South Lake Tahoe, drive north on Hwy 50.  From North Lake Tahoe, drive south/east on Hwy 28 to junction with Hwy 50.  Take 50 eas/north.  Park in the lot on the left side of the road, past the junction with Hwy 28 and just before Spooner Summit.


Tunnel Creek Rd. Parking-Park on Hwy 28 near the east end of Ponderosa Ranch in Incline Village.   Walk up Ponderosa Rd. to Tunnel Creek Rd.  Continue uphill on Tunnel Creek Rd. for 3.1mi, past the Flume Trail to TRT.


Tahoe Meadows- From Incline Village drive up Hwy 431 (Mt. Rose Highway) for 7.4 mi (or, if coming from Reno, .5mi from the summit).  The Tahoe Meadows Trailhead is on the southeast side of the Hwy.   Bathroom facilities.


Mt. Rose Summit - From Incline Village drive up Hwy 431 (Mt. Rose Highway) for about 8 mi to the summit.  Trailhead is on the left (southwest) side of the highway. Bathroom facilities.


Martis - Heading north on Hwy 267 from Kings Beach, turn right at the first right turn past Brockway summit onto 16N92. Follow this paved road about 3.5 mi. Near the top of the road, take  a dirt road to your right and follow about ½ mi to a gravel parking area. Park here. The TRT follows the road here.
