Each spring the Tahoe Rim Trail Association hosts a variety of different trainings and courses to prepare our volunteers for the trail building season.  Below are details regarding our various course offerings.

Emergency and Communications Training

MAY 18, 2013 3:00PM - 5:00PM

Description: TRTA Crew Leaders are required to attend the Emergency and Communications training every two years.  Join our New Crew Leader Training participants for the course on May 18th from 3:00pm to 5:0opm at the D.W.R Non Profit Center in Incline Village, NV (our office).  The course will cover a variety of topics including radio protocols, Emergency Action Plans, Good Samaritan Laws, TRTA Insurance, and GPS Units.

This course is for TRTA Crew Leaders only.

Trail Assessment Training Hike

MAY 22, 2013

Description:  Join the TRTA and USFS as we hike a trail to learn and practice our trail assessment skills.  We will be focusing on building consistency among our crew leaders regarding what are acceptable trail conditions, what needs immediate attention, and what can wait a season or two before repairs start.  We will specifically be looking at the trail we will be working on during our Crew Leader Training Camp (See Below)!  Specifics about hike distance are coming soon, but participants should be prepared to hike eight miles.

Time and Location: We will be meeting at the Kingsbury North Trailhead at 9:00am (Tenative).

Cost: Free - Please note this training is for TRTA volunteers only and is not open to the general public.

 Crew Leader Training Camp

June 15-16, 2013

Description: This training is for TRTA Crew Leaders only and will be a two day backcountry camp in which we will work with our USFS Partners and offer a range of training opportunities from the basics for our new crew leaders to advanced tracks for our senior crew leaders.  We highly encourage all of our crew leaders to attend the Crew Leader Training Camp!  It will be a fantastic opportunity to build skills, increase our consistency amongst crew leaders, and build our team.  

Time and Location: Current plans for this training are to host it on the Kingsbury North Section of Trail and camp off Genoa Peak Road.  These locations are tentative and awaiting USFS approval.  The camp will start at 9:00am on the 15th and will wrap up in the afternoon on the 16th. 

Cost: Free!!!  TRTA will be covering the costs of lunch on Saturday and Sunday and Dinner Saturday night.  Pre registration for this event is required!

Saw Trainings 

Saw trainings are for TRTA crew leaders and volunteers who are interested in helping the TRTA with our annual trail log out ONLY.

 

USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit - Cross Cut Training

MAY 4-5, 2013

Description: This two day training for TRTA volunteers and Crew Leaders will teach the basics on cross cut saws.  This training is intended only for those individuals interested in learning how to use a cross cut to help clear downed trees off the Tahoe Rim Trail.  This course is a bucking only training, we will not be felling trees. Participants must attend both days of this course.  Each participant must have current First Aid and CPR certification PRIOR to attending the course.  Participants will be required to show proof of certification on the first day of the course.

Cost:  Free - Please note this training is for TRTA volunteers only and is not open to the general public.

USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit - Chainsaw RECERTIFICATION Training

MAY 10, 2013

Description: This one day training for TRTA volunteers and Crew Leaders who currently hold a B level USFS Chainsaw Certification or higher and need to recertify.  This course is a bucking only training, we will not be felling trees.  Each participant must have current First Aid and CPR certification PRIOR to attending the course.  Participants will be required to show proof of certification on the first day of the course.
