Trail Ambassador and Backcountry Patrol Program
The Tahoe Rim Trail has more than 100,000 visitors each year, which means there are sometimes user conflicts or people who need assistance on the trail. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association's Trail Ambassador Program, Lake Tahoe Backcountry Patrol and the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park are partnering to cover more ground and to reach more trail users. The Trail Ambassadors (hikers and equestrians) and the Backcountry Patrol (mountain bikers) volunteer on the Tahoe Rim Trail to promote safe, responsible, and enjoyable use with an emphasis on:
- Emergency assistance to injured/missing persons
- Mechanical assistance
- Trail assessment and minor maintenance
- Trail etiquette education
- Resource information and stewardship
Interested volunteers must attend the Patrol/Ambassador Training offered June 8-9th, 2013. The Mountain Bike Patrollers will also need to do an orientation ride with an existing patroller to complete their training. Additional training will be offered for those that need it, including:
- Basic First Aid + CPR
- Basic Bicycle Repair
Time Commitment:
- We request two patrols per month during the busy season (June – October)
