Other Ways to Give
Gift & Estate Planning
GIFT & ESTATE PLANNING
Gift & Estate Planning is one of the best ways to give back to the TRTA and to ensure that future generations can also hike the Trail.
There are a variety of simple ways to give to the Tahoe Rim Trail that can provide financial and tax benefits to you and your loved ones. We hope that you will find the information here helpful as you prepare your estate and gift plans.
A planned gift to Tahoe Rim Trail Association is a powerful and thoughtful way to share your desire to preserve the Tahoe Rim Trail for future generations. TRTA’s tax ID number is 94-2789846.
BEQUESTS
By leaving a charitable bequest to the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, you help protect the Trail for future generations. In addition to providing significant support to TRT, a charitable bequest may save you significant estate tax dollars.
You can make a bequest to the TRTA by naming us in your will or trust or by designating us as a beneficiary on bank or brokerage accounts, 401(k), individual retirement accounts, or life insurance policies.
Bequests are wonderful ways to:
- Create endowed funds
- Establish memorials to people you love
- Continue your annual support after your lifetime
- Support Trail Operations or Trail Use
In order to name the Tahoe Rim Trail Association in your bequest, we suggest you name the Tahoe Rim Trail Association as follows: "...Tahoe Rim Trail Association, a nonprofit membership organization, incorporated by the laws of the State of Nevada, having as its principal address 948 Incline Way, Incline Village, Nevada 89451."
RETIREMENT PLANS
Naming the Tahoe Rim Trail Association a beneficiary of your retirement plan assets means that TRTA will receive 100 percent of your retirement plan proceeds free of all taxes. And, although the proceeds will be included in your gross estate, they will be completely deductible as a charitable gift.
LIFE INSURANCE
Life insurance is an excellent way to make a gift to the Tahoe Rim Trail Association. Life insurance policies allow several ways to give. You can donate a paid policy that you no longer need by naming the Tahoe Rim Trail Association as the beneficiary and policy owner. In return, you will receive an immediate tax deduction based on your cost basis in the policy, and it will reduce the value of your estate by the full face value of the policy, potentially reducing estate taxes. Upon your death, the life insurance proceeds will be passed on to Tahoe Rim Trail Association.
RIM TRAIL LEGACY CIRCLE
The Rim Trail Legacy Circle honors and recognizes the generosity and vision of those who have chosen to leave a legacy to the Tahoe Rim Trail Association in their will or estate plan. By including the Tahoe Rim Trail Association in a will or estate plan, you not only fulfill your philanthropic goals but you also help us build new trail, maintain the existing trail system, offer volunteer training, educational programs, increase our endowment and provide for other ongoing needs. Your gift makes you a member of the Society. Just complete the confidential enrollment form on this Web site. The details of your gift always remain confidential.
PRESERVING THE LEGACY
You may choose to direct your planned gift to our Endowment Fund to help insure future financial support to "Preserve the Legacy" of the thousands of volunteers and tens of thousands of volunteer hours that built this "trail like no other". This fund is protected for perpetuity in the Parasol Community Foundation.
