National Winter Trails Day |

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association will be hosting a FREE event on Saturday, January 10th 2009 at Tahoe Meadows on the east side of the Mount Rose Highway. The event begins at 10am and will feature free guided snowshoe hikes for all ages and abilities and free Starbucks hot chocolate and snacks.

Join us for FREE guided snowshoe treks every Saturday from January 10 through the end of March. The TRTA will be also offering three Full Moon Snowshoe Treks (click "Read more"for schedule). The TRTA, along with the U.S. Forest Service and Tahoe Backcountry Ski Patrol, want you to discover the great fitness and social benefits of the easy-to-learn sport of snowshoeing.

Exploring the wilderness in winter is a wonderful experience. Whether gliding through the trees on cross-country skis, or hiking up a ridge to a beautiful view of Lake Tahoe, the silence and beauty of winter is truly something special.
At the same time, the snowy, cold, winter environment can be extremely dangerous. It takes proper trip planning, experience (or experienced guides), and the right equipment to travel safely in this type of environment.
